Orphans

On the topic of orphans, I used to think like most people. Sure it was sad that kids didn't have families, but what could I do about that? The problem was impossible to solve, so better not to contemplate it for too long. Besides, I was busy raising 4 children, one of whom was adopted, so I had done my "share", and my plate was full.
Then one day my husband approached me about adopting again, specifically a child with Down Syndrome(DS). I am ashamed to admit it, but I wasn't really interested. I was content with my life, and didn't feel like being "inconvenienced" with adopting child, especially one with special needs. All I can say is God did a radical work on my heart, and within a matter of months we were in process to adopt our precious son Ivan from Hong Kong, who just happens to have DS.
After bringing Ivan home, the Lord just broke my heart for orphans. Suddenly, all those waiting children weren't just sad statistics, but they were just like Ivan. They were these beautiful treasures waiting everywhere to be discovered by their forever families. Suddenly, the orphan issue was completely personal. My life was forever changed.

Hi Amy,
I'm right there with you. It's such a gift to have that new found love for orphans everywhere.
